News @ Jains - Prime Minister of Rwanda received Mr. Atul Jain of Jain Irrigation Systems .![]() Rwanda - 24th May 2011 : - Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Bernard MAKUZA received Mr. Atul Jain of Jain Irrigation Systems Company, who is in Rwanda to prospect for irrigation partnership opportunities in Rwanda. Jain Irrigation, leading company in India in plastics processing industry, is the pioneer in plasticulture technology suitable for Indian farmers. It proved the scientific use of plastics in the production of drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, pipes, and PVC sheets. This technology has underlined the significant contribution of Jain Irrigation in the ecological balance. The Company has achieved the magic of bringing more land area under cultivation with less water due to the use of micro-irrigation system, pipes and drip system manufactured with the assistance of plastics. Jain Irrigation has made available technology needed for development of agriculture in India to farmers from the decade of 1980 and thus made an important contribution to the literacy of the agricultural sector. Jain Irrigation Systems is an Indian multimillion company that supplies over 70% of Indian made Irrigation equipment and operates internationally in 110 of other countries, all over the world. Jain Irrigation Systems has started to work in Africa, and they wish to open up their very first office in Africa, here in Rwanda. The role of the company in Rwanda in particular and in general in Africa will be to help them to produce more and better, to establish the culture of using water efficiently, to introduce adapted technology at local needs and proceed to knowledge transfer to Rwandan experts by training trainers. The company is experienced in following components: - Irrigation - Solar energy & Biogas for renewable energy - Agri-produce processing - Training and disseminating agro knowledge and expertise - Research & development - Watershed planning and water harvesting Jain Company has already important following achievements: - Irrigation of 200 ha in Kagitumba plain - MINAGRI has signed a MoU with JIS about Irrigation Development in Rwanda and addition to the primarily production - A turnkey proposal of scaling-up the Government-funded irrigation program in Kirehe on 3,000 ha to be submitted to Indian Government for financing. - Supplied to EWSA pipes for clean water supply and PVC pipes - Building an irrigation scheme in Nasho plain For next steps: - Jain Irrigation Systems is intending to introduce agro-processing. - Irrigation and renewable energy technologies. In their meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr. Atul JAIN and his delegation presented their background and a clear picture of their activities in Rwanda, where his company is planning to deliver commendable results within 5 years. He also promised to cooperate with the Government of Rwanda in improving agriculture, through irrigation systems. Prime Minister thanked them for their brilliant thoughts and the love they have for contributing to the sustainabledevelopment of Rwanda. He supported the Indian approach of knowledge transfer that is among the pillars ofsustainability and prosperity of what it was achieved. The Prime Minister remind them that Rwanda has significant wealth of natural water and rain water but we have not yet exploited them sufficiently, so that they become the source of development of our country. He also appreciated the experimental and demonstration approach based also on the culture of users or implementers. This will help famers to have a quick understanding of new technologies. In conclusion, the Prime Minister blessed projects to be intended by Jain Irrigation System Ltd. He called upon the Ministry of Agricultural to work closely with JISL to maximize profit in best practices, in multiples technologies to be brought in Rwanda and in Knowledge.
